Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks are both within an hours drive, offering more serious walking and tramping. Golden Bay / Takaka is also an hours drive from the cottage.

Upper Moutere is an historic German settlement well worth visiting. Along the way you can visit various wineries, potteries and cafés; Neudorf Vineyards, Kahurangi Estate, Neudorf Cheese, Katie Gold and Owen Bartlett Pottery, Moutere Gold Preserves, Woollaston Estates, Himmelsfeld, Ruby Bay, Moutere Hills vineyards and Riverside Café.

Mapua offers shops, cafés and restaurants.

Motueka offers more shops, banks, restaurants and a Sunday market.

Nelson Market is the best in the country and is held every saturday morning. (approx 45 mins drive from the cottage)
